2024 Foreign Service Game VPS Troubleshooting: What are the five things to look for first when latency is high?
High latency is not necessarily due to poor nodes. It may be caused by local operators, routing detours, evening peak hours, instance load, or game server issues.
When the latency of foreign server games is high, do not immediately assume that there is a problem with the VPS node. First check the line from the local operator to the node, then check the line from the VPS to the game server, and finally see if the game server itself is congested.
The five troubleshooting points include: whether the local network is losing packets, whether the route to the VPS is detoured, whether the evening peak is significantly worse, whether the instance CPU/bandwidth is fully loaded, and whether the game server is active or during updates.
If you want to change nodes, it is recommended to test candidate areas such as Hong Kong, Singapore, Tokyo, and Los Angeles at the same time, and record the average delay, maximum delay, and packet loss during the same time period.
